Eric Yorke Cruises to Victory at Sunset Speedway

Posted: June 7, 2016 in Race Reports

IMG_0723It seems all the bugs are worked out for Eric Yorke as he’d cruise to feature victory lane at Sunset Speedway on Saturday night.

He started off the night solidly, finishing second in his heat, followed by a third place finish in the Fast Qualifer’s Dash.

The feature re-draw worked out in his favor as he’d get to start the 25-lap feature from the pole. That’d be a good thing as it was an unfortunate messy start for his competitors with some getting involved in a wreck.

The second attempt to start the race went cleaner as Eric Yorke put the No. 51 Can-Alignment Motorsports, Milton Napa Auto Parts, J&D Tire, Solex Steel, McKeown Collision, Partimer Signs, Ancaster Embroidery, Country Girl Designs and Skytec Rentals Nissan out front ahead of Montanari and Allard.

Despite a couple restarts that followed, Yorke was able to hold on to the lead each time ahead of the field, followed by stretching it out once they got a good green flag run going. He’d remain unchallenged throughout, despite the quicker cars moving their way to the front, cruising to his first victory of 2016.

“It feels great,” Yorke commented in victory lane. “I’ve been battling this car since the beginning of the season – didn’t even run the feature the first night. I got a good starting spot, which helped, but still a strong run and get win to get.”

Yorke added that he knew first night feature winner Nic Montanari wasn’t too far behind, but wasn’t worried.

“I was waiting for him to catch me but he stayed where he was so I was just waiting but he never did,” he added. “Maybe next weekend he can give me a run.”

He admitted, though, that was lap traffic had him a bit nervous, considering it was just a couple weeks an incident with lap traffic cost him a top-five finish.

“I wanted to make sure I got around them without any incident,” he commented. “Everybody ran me clean. Hats off to all the drivers – clean racing. We had a couple incidents at the beginning, but then it was clean after that so great, great racing.”

Special thanks to Can-Alignment Motorsports, Milton Napa Auto Parts, J&D Tire, Solex Steel, McKeown Collision, Partimer Signs, Ancaster Embroidery, Country Girl Designs and Skytec Rentals for their support.
