INNISFIL, Ontario — Eric Yorke made for a memorable trip back to Sunset Speedway on Saturday night, once again parking the No. 51 Nissan in victory lane.
After winning both of his qualifying heats, Yorke was forced to start ninth for the 25-lap feature. He’d waste no time making his way forward, moving up into third by the fourth lap. He continued moving forward, up to the runner-up spot by the sixth lap. He’d remain there, right in Tyler Seaboyer’s tracks for the race lead, up until the race’s first caution on Lap 16.
The restart saw a battle for the lead between Seaboyer and Yorke, but also produced the second caution with a car going around in turn two. Yorke got a good restart to take the lead, with Seaboyer in close pursuit. The pair remained that way through the final laps, with Seaboyer back alongside Yorke for the lead with three laps to go, with the pair remaining side-by-side through the next lap. Seaboyer would get loose through turns one and two on the last lap, allowing Yorke to get the run off the corner. Yorke would then lead the final lap en route to scoring the victory.
“The car was pushing through the corner, and loose off; I couldn’t run the inside line and he kept taking it, fighting his nose in there,” Yorke said in victory lane. “He almost got me; it was a good race.”
Yorke noted the big difference between his victory on Saturday, and the 50 lap event in August was the different tire compounds.
“We were on different tires at the invitational, and this is the only second time that we’ve run on these Hoosier tires,” he commented. “It is what it is, right? Constantly switching tires and mixing set-ups, it’s hard to keep up.”
Yorke is proud to be supported by Can-Alignment Motorsports, Solex Steel, Partimer Signs, Skytec Rentals, Budget Tire, Scentsy Consultant – Lisa DeLeeuw, and Cabral Racing Promotions.
